Knowledge retention is a huge issue right now for organizations, both in the public and private sector. One of the things that I have found, especially with the proliferation of social media, is that we now have tools that allow us to collectively learn from each other, communicate and share knowledge like never before. One of the things we’ll be doing over the next few months is interviewing subject matter experts about some of their insights into critical HR issues. We hope that you’ll take some time to read these informative articles!
Recently I attended the NSPE’s HR and CFO Annual Synergy Roundtable in Alexandria, VA where I heard Michelle Bennett speak about leadership development and succession planning. Michelle is the People Manager for the Americas at GHD, Inc. We caught up with her to have her expand on some of these topics. She had some really interesting information to share about developing succession plans with senior executives so they feel that they are part of the succession planning process and don’t think they are being pushed out. With so many Boomer executives on the cusp of retirement, she feels that too many organizations aren’t doing enough to develop the next set of leaders and aren’t prepared to retain the knowledge of current leadership. It’s great insight and you can read our full conversation HERE.
